A Reflection of Hawaii's Past

Three hundred years ago Lahaina was the center of royal life in Hawaii. Great kings and queens and their families lived and entertained along these shores. Even some of our favorite surfing spots were once reserved for royalty or ali‘i. No doubt, these great kings gathered their guests to feast, celebrate and enjoy the royal Hula dancers, much in the way we entertain today’s visitors and guests. Today we celebrate the heritage and culture of these “Ali‘i along with the common people or kanaka” who worked the fields, threw fishing nets, wove lauhala mats and baskets, and raised their families here in Lahaina, the royal capital of Hawaii.

The Old Lahaina Luau takes great pride in presenting an authentic Hawaiian Luau along the shores of Mo‘ali‘i. It is a fun filled evening of traditional Hawaiian cuisine, music and cultural dances and island crafts. Guests will appreciate a genuine reflection of Hawai‘i’s rich history while enjoying an ocean view and sunset.

The evening begins with guests individually greeted with a fresh flower lei, tropical drink and a personalized souvenir program. A premium open bar is included. Luau hosts escort guests to their reserved seats and acquaint them with the luau grounds. Some of the activities to enjoy at that time are traditional arts and crafts demonstrations, hula lessons and Hawaiian games and don’t forget the imu presentation where guests gather as the kalua pua‘a is unearthed.

Make sure you arrive hungry for what awaits is a bountiful feast featuring traditional luau foods—Kalua Roast Pork, Laulau (Pork wrapped in Luau leaf steamed to perfection), Poi, Ahi Poke (marinated raw Ahi tuna), Big Island Sweet Potato as well as local favorites—Grilled Tenderloin Steak, Chicken Long Rice, Maui Style Mahi-Mahi Chef’s special preparation, Stir Fry Vegetables, and Local Style FriedRice just to name a few!

Upon sunset, the evening’s main entertainment begins.The award-winning production tells the story of the Hawaiians. The cast is proud to present the Hula as it was meant to be performed with the respect and honor of our Ancestors. The history enfolds beginning with the Polynesian migration, then to the ancient Hawaiian Hula, followed by the evolution to a more contemporary style Hula.

As guests leave they take with them an understanding and appreciation of Hawaiian culture and some of the Aloha Spirit that our islands are known for.
